Google turns 20

No technology company is arguably more responsible for shaping the modern internet, and modern life, than Google

Google completed 20 years in September 2018. In these two decades Google changed the world. As a company, Google changed too. “What hasn’t changed is our mission: To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful,” a company announcement said.

Starting with Search, Google now has seven products that are used by more than a billion people every month. Instead of a handful of employees in California’s Menlo Park garage, it has tens of thousands of employees and offices in nearly 60 countries.

Google’s top product – Gmail is used worldwide, and it is interesting to learn how Gmail was born. Its idea came from a Google user complaining about the poor quality of existing email services.

According to Larry Page, Google co-founder and president, Products: “She kvetched about spending all her time filing messages or trying to find them. And when she’s not doing that, she had to delete email like crazy to stay under the obligatory four megabyte limit. So she asked, ‘Can’t you people fix this?’”

Google is now part of Alphabet, its parent company created in 2015

The exact date of Google’s founding is still up for debate, even for those inside Google who provide all the answers. Google Inc. was incorporated on September 4, but for more than a decade the company celebrates its birthday on September 27—with an annual Doodle.

Haven’t you noticed what fun are Google Doodles – yes the surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists!

For a user Google comes first – To providing the information s/he needs, wherever s/he is—whether it’s to start a business, learn something new, or connect with anyone. Well, Google may not have all the answers you might need, but it will never stop searching.
