Google+ shutting down

Google Plus (also known as Google+), the social networking service from Google, is shutting down.

It will now rest with other dead Google services – Orkut and Buzz, which were put to sleep by the technology giant.

If you are using Gmail, and you are mostly using this email service from Google, you would be having a Google+ account. You might also be managing a Google+ page!

Google is closing this service due to low usage and challenges involved in maintaining this product to meet consumers’ expectations.

On April 2nd, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages you created will be shut down. Google will then begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts.

Google’s social networks Orkut and Buzz died despite picking up at a faster rate once upon a time. And Google Plus has never been to a level Facebook and Twitter reached. Click here to read more on this.

Photos and videos from Google+ in your album archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content, just make sure to do so before April.

Note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.

When Google Plus originally launched in late June 2011, people could only join by obtaining an invite by email.

Then, in December 2018, Google announced its decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019.

“We want to thank you for being part of Google+,” Google informed its social network consumers in a mailer.

“From all of us on the Google+ team, thank you for making Google+ such a special place,” it added.

From now on, you will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events.

If you’re a G Suite customer, Google+ for your G Suite account should remain active.
