#2Words: Balanced Diet

Imagine a plate full of food. What do you see on that plate? If it is pasta, burger, fries, and chips then remind yourself of the two words – Balanced Diet.

We say remind, not learn since all of us are aware of what is a balanced diet. We have read about it in our school but have conveniently forgotten how important it is for our health.

Simply put, a balanced diet has all the necessary nutrients like proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals in the right amount.

In today’s fast-paced life preparing your meals seems like a Herculean task. There is no time to lay out elaborate meals and when you live alone, there is no motivation as well.

However, when you think about it, having a balanced diet is no rocket science. Following some basic steps will ensure that you are eating healthy.

Firstly, it is important to avoid skipping any meal, most importantly never skip breakfast. Dr. Namrata Gautam of Drugless Health Care Centre emphasizes that “Breakfast is the first meal of the day. It replenishes your energy levels and essentially wakes you up by making you alert.”

Learn to make simple but nutritious meals. It is not necessary to complicate the whole eating process. Eat raw food, salads, fruits, and drink vegetable and fruit juices. Don’t forget to add variety to your meals as only one type of food does not have all the nutrients.

A balanced diet is incomplete without the right amount of water, as it helps in the process of releasing energy right from the digestion of food to its absorption. Keep a bottle of water with you everywhere.

Snacking is not a crime but healthy snacks should be preferred over oily unhealthy snacks to satisfy your cravings. Look for snacks made from healthy alternatives like grains, nuts, dried fruits, and vegetables.

A balanced diet may not seem an attractive option at first. But it has more advantages than we realize. It plays a vital role in healing people as well. Here, it is pertinent to note that people with certain ailments may adopt a balanced diet as advised by dieticians.

Dr. Mili Siddiqui of Advanced Homeopathy says, “A balanced diet can prevent ailments like heart diseases and diabetes. Even if a person is sick, a proper diet can help recover fast. We always recommend our patients to inculcate a nutritious diet while they are under treatment.”

Now imagine that plate of food again with a balanced diet and make it a reality.
